I made some soap that looked fine, but when I took it out of the PVC pipe mould, it crumbled at one (bottom) of the ends.
It was made with 32 oz of oils consisting of 50% lard, 25% coconut oil and 25% soybean oil which was run through the soapcalc. I know that it is suggested not to insulate PVC moulds, but in the winter my house runs "cold" so I used just one towel to wrap around it. After two days, I stuck it in the freezer for a few hours, tapped it on the floor to release the soap, but when it slipped out, the end crumbled up. After a bit I sliced it, and there were no further problems.

I'm wondering if the bottom maybe didn't get insulated enough? :? Thanks!!

Interesting - I had a soap that was quite crumby but after you used it - it was fine....hard to say what happened with your though. I really want to try the PVC pipes - just haven't had the time yet....

I think that lack of insulation had to be it, although I'm not entirely sure. For my newest batch I used a towel for the bottom to keep the bottom warm. After I popped it out, it so far does not appear that it will crumble. I will know for sure after I slice it. :D
