Ok I need help with the soap calc. I have watched videos but still having difficulty adjusting a recipe.

I downloaded a kindle book " how to make wooden soap molds". By M. Bear. My neighbor built two very nice and exact wooden 5 lbs molds. I chose to make her higher box to do fluffy tops to my soaps. She explains in the book how to calculate the amount of oils needed my dimensions are actually 16x3.5x4.75. M. Bear says to calculate the amount by 16 x 3.5 x 2.75 x .40 = 61.6

I have a recipe for bee good soap
16 oz wt sweet almond oil
26 oz wt canola oil
32oz wt coconut oil
28 oz wt olive oil
26 oz wt hydrogenated soybean oil
48 fl oz water
18 oz lye
4 oz wt beeswax (.5 oz /lb x 8 lbs)
4 oz wt honey ( .5 oz/lb x 8lbs)

Obviously this recipe is for 8lbs. How do I adjust it in the soap calculator to fit my molds??

Also is hydrogenated soybean oil food grade saw some in Costco today but it didn't say hydrogenated? What exactly do I buy??

Thanks for your help. Trying to understand but not quite understanding.

I think to get your quantities of oil multiply by 5 then divide by 8, then trust the soap calc to give you water and lye weights. Sorry I haven't used soybean oil. My first soap had 3 simple oils: olive oil 50% coconut oil 28% castor oil 14% and beeswax 8%.I don't use more than 10% castor oil or about 3% beeswax now. Experiment and learn. It worked OK though

Just put your original recipe in soapcalc and click 'calculate recipe'.
It will give you the percentages.
Go from oz to % under the blue number 8.
Now you can change the weight of oils under the blue number 2 to whatever you want.

With that percentage of canola and soybean, you have a high risk of DOS though.

DOS? What is that??

Last night before I went to sleep I halved the recipe and plugged it in the soap calc and it was very close and said total oz 66. It gave me the % of oils and water and lye.

My question though suppose my boxes weren't half the size of the recipe isn't the purpose of the calculator to calculate it for you?

ok I have OCD soapmaking. My husband just asked me how many hours am I going to spend researching recipes.
I don't know but..... ;) here is one that looks good.

34% olive oil
28% cocnut
19% plam
5 % castor
9% sunflower
5% Cocoa Butter
original recipe was for 3 lbs I calculated for my box which is 61.6 and added beeswax and would like to add honey and oatmeal, milk and honey fragrance.

What do you all think??

I also found one that uses 3 oil basic recipe 45% olive, 25% coconut, 30% palm.

I'm obsessed!!

For the first one go for the basic recipe. Those oils are less likely to get DOS.
I have to say I was like you and researched for months looking for beeswax honey recipe. Probably won't make that again, but isn't some of the stuff you find really inspiring - especially on this site. Thanks everyone for so many ideas!
