Is the calculator at www.soapcalc.com set for a 5% superfat automatically?

I haven't gotten into learning about superfatting yet (just sticking to the basics right now) but I've noticed that when I use soapcalc it always says 5% beside Super Fat/Discount %. I have always just left it at that, so does that mean all of the soaps I have made so far have had a 5% superfat?

Sorry if this is a really obvious question. I hadn't even thought about superfatting yet but noticed this and was curious. Maybe I've been doing it all along!

Thanks. :)

Yes Ashley, it is automatically set for 5%, however you can change it. All of your soaps have been superfatted so far!

Yup. The 5% is a standard minimum for super fatting to ensure we don't ever have lye-heavy soap. There's a difference in the SAP values of any particular oil, & it's never exact. It varies enough that we need that 5% as a safey cushion.
