I'm not one for trying to start trouble (I'm not trust me! ) but I happened across this person's ebay listings and just HAD to share with you all. It makes me MAD! I sent him/her a little note they won't be happy about, but I just had to let them know what they are doing is REALLY upsetting to some of us who actually have to stoop to using LYE in our soaps :x !! I'm not sure if they're being dishonest or they're just not educated in what they are selling....but my guess is the first.

And.....Organic??? EO is not even used, FO (oh, I mean essence oil!) is used. Just goes to show you how many people out there are unaware of what soap really IS and will buy anything. Here's a link to this person's one listing, check out more of the sales (and descriptions) this person had made.......UGH!!!

I told them the jig is up (i would let my other fellow soapmakers know...) drop this person a line if you would, let them know the false advertising and dishonesty is not appreciated.

Hrrmmpph.

I find it interesting that in this listing, she says, "I don`t use lye a corrosive material found in all store bought soap. My soap is just safer for you and your children`s skin." Which is a "lye" in and of itself.

She is also selling her bars for $1.00. She has no ingredients listed on any of her soaps, either.

ETA: After more searching, I see she is using a M&P base, one of which the ingredients are listed as sodium hydroxide. I guess if it does not say "lye", it must not contain it.

GRRR!!!!!! That is crazy. You cant make a good bar and packaging for $1.00? If you can, let me know I want to get in on that.... LOL

Actually that is how I came across the listings to begin with, through someone elses feedback or something....I like to snoop at feedback to see what the negatives are all about......
The shipping is what it is though, this person doesn't state any reduction for combined shipping, these people should have known that, most are fairly new to ebay I noticed.

I got quite the quick response back from this person with a short little "you don't even sell soap get a life"....that was it. I was hoping that some others might send a "polite" reminder about the "lye" statements at least. Or just let it go....I'm not so mad now....I've cooled down....besides, as of now...this person has no listings....maybe, MAYBE, they'll re-write the descriptions or something......as I told them in other words "it's not my butt that could be sued by the wrong person....."

But hey, thanks for letting me vent! I knew you guys would at least understand.....my fellow addicts!

I noticed one of her goat milk soaps have 'no animal products' in it... so, goats are trees now??

Thanks for bringing this up. I don't normally make comments to people, but I am really getting sick of these people coming out of the woodwork now saying how LYE is dangerous and they don't make soap with lye, yada, yada, yada. What a bunch of BS. The following is what I sent to that seller.

Chris

Hi. I saw your listing for "soap." Sorry that I have to burst your bubble but you are seriously misinformed about soap. ALL soap is made with LYE. Even if you use a melt and pour base it originally started with lye. In order to make soap you need oils and an alkali solution, i.e, LYE. If not used, all you have is oil and water (or some other liquid). If you make melt and pour, contact whoever manufactures your base and ask them what about their ingredients. It seems like you and many other people out there need to research what soap really is before you start selling it and exposing the so-called dangers of LYE.

With the amount of trees my own goats consume, maybe they really are what they eat???

I am going to keep an eye on when she lists again, and make a comment questioning her ingredients, etc.

Thanks Chris!! Hope they get the hint. I did actually go back and read a few more descriptions and they did state in one that they would combine shipping and send free samples if you ordered 4 or more bars. That's what that one person did, ordered 4 bars and didn't get any discount on shipping. I'd be pissed too! Anyway, hopefully a couple of others might chime in and send him/her an email, especially if they can be as tactful as you were (me?...not so much).

I also noticed the "NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS" in the GOAT'S MILK soap. hahahahahaha!!! I want one of those goat trees too!

The trouble here, as I see it, is these soaps are probably great feeling soaps, (except the one with the "organic sandalwood  , it's wood for pete's sake!) and in the buyer believing it's made without lye would never venture to ever purchase from someone who is abiding by the law, being truthful and listing the lye "somewhere" in the ingredients. I know when I sell at craft fairs, I tell people right up front that (all) soap is made with lye, (even the MP base) without it you don't have soap....etc. etc. Even end up explaining superfatting to some.... That's a lot of work explaining that all the time! :(

And what makes me REALLY MAD??? (and green with a sick kind of envy) is the fact that they SOLD 246 BARS OF THIS SOAP SINCE FEBRUARY!!! Guess I'm selling in the wrong venue.......maybe I should take the lye out of my soap?? Or grind up a vanilla tree into a fine powder and call it organic with REAL VANILLA TREE Powder (like their vanilla EO)........ugg, now I went and upset myself again...

I was reading one of the comments in the feedback section:

I was charged 21.00 shipping when the postage said $6.67 eve747 ( 127) Sep-22-08 17:30

You paid .99 for a organic bar of soap and it says I make up cost in shipping

So really the bars are not one dollar and she states I make up cost in shipping? LOL The idiots continue to purchase it!

That is called fee avoidance & could get her kicked off ebay. She only pays her ebay fee % based on the item cost, so the shiping excess is way to cheat ebay.

I urge everyone to write to ebay & report her. If you have time, go through the *live help* on the front page of ebay.

Don't be envious. Chances are she does not have insurance & it will come back around!

lol, I hate to pick on someone, but I read a little more of her listings, and *man* I want to get a red pen and correct her english and grammar - babbies, benifits, hypro-allergenic, "also realted to a iris flowers for it`s sweet smell" (four errors in that one quote alone) "soft sweet lather like fresh banana`s and it baby safe" (sweet is an adjective describing lather?) That isn't even half of one listing... oh gosh, sorry. I'm not mean, I swear.

If she had something listed, I may have just wasted four dollars, only to tell her than I broke out in a bad rash, and need her insurance info.

My said-a-mints exactly......I had enough to complain about I didn't even want to go there.....How DOES one make all that work????

It's simple some people just don't care and some people are not smart enough to read up on what she's claiming. And claiming is a nono but because she don't care, she continues to sell her underpriced bars with super high shipping charges.

I'm from Ft. Lauderdale! It's only about a 1000 miles, but hey, my babiest bro lives in Orlando and my Grandma's in Avon.

I did the whole "contact eBay" thing, too. Hopefully they will do something.

Thanks for pointing this out! I'll be she's freaking out if she's looking at the traffic she's getting!

bad ad

OK....I do MP and I;m pretty proud about it, but I do take pride in the fact that I do things the right way....

You would think that if enough people complain about the inaccuracy of the ad, eBay would make them pull it.
