Here it is my first swirl attempt! It's a drop swirl using ultramarine, activated charcoal and a pink mica I can't remember the name of.

Can't wait to unmold it. It was a little runny so hoping all the colours haven't just mixed together in there

Based on the top it appears to be beautiful. Can't wait to see it cut. I don't have particularly good luck with soaps with more than 50% dark color. I understand mica is better for this than oxides which tend to make colored suds from dark soaps. One way or the other, this is GREAT for a first attempt.

Thanks everyone

My pretty swirl looks like its forming soda ash this morning bizarrely only on the grey parts??

Is this ash forming?

Why does ash happen? This is my 3rd batch and the only real diff was I soaped much cooler (85f instead of 110f) and I used cooled, boiled water instead of tap

I get bad ash when ever I use charcoal, not sure why but I know others have also experienced it. Ash is what forms when lye comes in contact with air, thats why its appears on the exposed tops. I've learned to just embrace it or use lighter colors so it doesn't show as much.
