My dad made me a soap box, its 9 1/4" long, 3 1/4" wide and 3 1/2" deep. I am cutting my bars in 1" pieces. The bars seem huge. What is the standard size for a bar? My bars are very square and are too bulky to use. Any other suggestions?

Do you fill it up all the way? If you fill it to a depth of 2 to 2 1/2" then your bars will be 3 1/2 by 2 or 2 1/2 inches, which seems reasonable. 3 1/2" square does seem like it would be a bit big to handle easily.

Look at the sticky at the top of the forum about the amount of oil needed for a mold. If you multiply 3.25 x 2.25 x 9.25 (size of your mold with height of 2 1/4 inches) x .4, you can calculate a recipe that will fit your molds and get bars that are a more manageable size. I have similar molds that I made with materials from the Home Depot and my first bars were also very chunky. Using this formula worked for me. Good luck!
