I've saved up 235g of soap trimmings and I'm gonna bust out a quick confetti loaf tomorrow.

If I normally make a 700g batch to fit in my mold, do I just scale that down to 465g of new soap plus the confetti? And 2/3 new soap is enough to hold together well, right?

Yeah 2/3 soap batter, 1/3 confetti or embeds. Trace thick enough they don't sink, but thin enough to let the air bubbles out. Oh and briefly rinse the soap scraps and drain - helps the batter stick in my opinion. Your calc looks about right - just have a small mold handy in case there's a bit over. Good luck! Post pics!

I agree with Seawolfe, 2/3 batter to 1/3 shreds is good. 50:50 isn't bad. I've gone up to equal parts batter and shreds and didn't like it as well. Gently stirring it at a med trace is best, plus rinsing in water really helps if it's older soap.

I've tried to use more shreds than new soap and I ended up with a mess. The shreds are hard to mix properly into the soap batter at thin to medium trace. And then the mixture is harder to pour into the mold. My soap had pockets of loose shreds scattered throughout. Very frustrating.

I think if I'd used soap at emulsion or really thin trace, it might have worked as far as getting everything mixed together, but then there's the risk of the shreds sinking to the bottom of the soap. I think it's more reliable and less annoying to do the 1 to 2 parts new soap to 1 part shreds.

Turned out pretty well. Took Seawolfe and DeeAnna's recommendations and dampened the scraps and added them at thin trace. Then I let it sit in the pot and stirred occasionally until it was thick enough to suspend the scraps well.

Pics when I cut in a couple of days.

I'm too late for the party, but I do an over pour -- no need to mix the shreds in -- Cover the bottom of the mold with a bit of the new soap; toss in the shreds; cover with the rest of the batch. 1/3 shreds/ 2/3 new soap.

Just my nickel's worth.

You should always use distilled/RO water when making soap. It should not come into contact with tap water until it hits the shower to be used.

It's not as black as I'd wanted, maybe because it didn't gel. But I put 1-1/2 tsp of AC in 500g of base.
