The first friday of every month, the art gallerys in the oldest part of the city ("Old City") open there doors to the public after 5:00. While street vending is not allowed in this area, an exception is made for this event. I have sold soap here on the sidewalk with scores of other vendors a few times.
Tonight, after a few hours of decent sales, 2 park rangers approached me and informed me and the guy next to me that we were on Federal grounds and were not allowed to sell or display prices.... they were very cool so the other guy moved across the street, it was late enough that I packed up and headed home.
Parking is also impossible in this part of town... so I picked up an aluminum folding table from Target. It was $40 and folds to only about twice the size of a camping chair. I loaded this, a camping chair and my wares onto my "Sport Utility Scooter" and parked right on the sidewalk It worked out great! I'll be sure to do the same next month, but not on a Federal sidewalk
