Shower Steamer - Oxidizing

Hello: My peppermint shower steamers get oxidized on the exposed portion, my lavender ones are perfect. Why is this?

Are you using peppermint essential oil or a peppermint fragrance oil? If it's the latter, it could have vanillin in it which would turn brownish.
