I am looking at a wire rack usually used in kitchens, for a soap drying rack, it is chrome plated. Can you put your soap on chrome?

From what I understand, if you use chrome or any kind of metal racks, you may want to line the rack with partchment paper or something like that so that the soap is not resting directly on the metal. I've heard from other soapers who have had problems with their soaps discoloring and/or coming down with DOS when curing soaps directly on metal shelving. Putting some kind of barrier between the soap and metal takes care of the problem, though. Some use sandwhich paper, some use paper towels, some use those rectangle plastic canvas mats thet sell at the craft store, some use butcher paper or old sheets, etc....

IrishLass :)

I use a metal kitchen rack for curing, and I just use parchment or wax paper. I've never had a problem. In fact, I usually just sit the cut soap back on the paper I used to line the mold, since I have never been able to reuse mine like some people can.

Google "cambro fast food".

They're fabulous!

I have chrome shelves and I lined them with plastic craft sheets or screens.

I use the rungs from a frig, but they are covered in plastic, they work well.
I kept some s/s frig shelves from an old frig we got rid of ages ago and finally threw them out and now I want them back. Arrgggg.

Relle.

I found 4 ft metal shelves at walmart that are coated in vinyl or something like that. They are white and hang on the wall and fit 48 bars on each with them laying flat. I have 3 shelves. They are around $11 each.

I'm glad you asked that question. I use metal and never thought of questioning it. Now I need to go line shelves!

I bought a few plastic dish drains with attached drain board, last week and they are working out well. They can be stacked on top of each other, have the ventilation, and no lining needed. Great provided you have the shelving to store them on. HTH

my husband got me shelves

My husband showed up with a gigantic thick plastic shelving unit. It is very large and strudy. It has 5 - 2 ft x 3 ft slotted shelves, and stands 6 feet high. I will need a step to get up and put things on the top shelf. He said that he found it at Home Depot for $49.99. Problem solved.

Glad I saw this. I was going to get stainless steel but it's too expensive. Then I decided chrome...hummm, I may have to rethink this. Planning on moving in this week and redoing a huge basement to turn it into a soap room. Thanks for posting.

I use this stacking rack from Target. I have a small space in my hoosier cabinet that it fits neatly into and it's made of stainless steel. Only cost me $10.00.

If you line the racks you will be fine, I've been reading up on coroplast lately. Its rigid and washable, so if you need to stack you can do that to.
Wish I had a good basement to store finished soap
 I can only store fo's down there, to damp.

I bought racks exactly like that from AC Moore, with a 40% off coupon. $6.00. So check out the craft stores. They are not large enough if you make soap to sell (I already bought two sets and they are just about filled), but great for the non-professional.

Well I saw in the little room down in the basement there was a light switch with a thermometer and a humidity reader made into it. I have never seen that before so I better not count my blessings too fast. Not sure about the humidity down there yet. I'm looking for something that can hold at least 4-5 shelves of soaps, etc. Just bought like $100 in paint today at Lowes. Thank God for tax deductions.

I got the below rack from Target- it's supposed to be a shoe rack, and it only cost like $15. The metal is coated in vinyl.

If you look on the floor, you see a folded up wooden rack. That is from Ikea, and cost a few dollars. I love that I can put the wood one on a counter and then fold it up when I'm done with it. I recommend both!

Oh cthylla I like your rack idea even better - it's large enough to get your hands in there to turn the soap!

Not to mention that it doesn't take up much room. I like this idea too. Love the price. I will need quite a few to line at least half a wall with them.
