Hi, I’m confused about what Shea butter I use? Do I have to use a pure shea butter or can I use a moisturise one?

Shea butter is just that, shea butter. I'm not sure what you mean by "a moisturise one" ???

Moisturize one? Like in a moisturizer( Cream)? No you can’t. Because that has a lot of stuff added. Water, other oils and the cream might have like 5% Shea Butter if you are lucky.

Better to use Pure Shea Butter. Refined or unrefined is fine. Whichever is easier for you to get.

If my memory serves correctly, raw shea tends to have more unsaponifiables - so if you're planning to use a higher percentage of shea, it might be wise to go with refined.

Yes that’s what I meant, sorry I misspelt and I sent it without reading. I like in AUS and finding it hard to find pure Shea butter so was confused as to whether the moisturising creams would do or if there was actually pure Shea butter! I’ll have to have a better look around thank you!

Also, does anyone know why it doesn’t let me reply sometimes? Tells me I don’t have permission to reply which is why it’s taken me so long!

Maybe look at this thread on where to buy soaping supplies in Australia: https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/help-from-the-aussies.68577/

Or start a new thread in the 'Shopping Recommendations' forum specifiying you live in Australia, so other Aussies will give you affordable options.

There are a few members in Australia. Off hand I remember that penelopjane, SaltedFig, Relle and Dahila are all in Australia. But there are others.

For some more shopping recommendations threads you might find searching Google using these terms helpful:
site:soapmakingforum.com (insert your key words here)

example: site:soapmakingforum.com where to buy soaping oils Australia
sometimes you have to change the search words around to get more pertinent results

Reply problem: Post your question here, for Angie to follow up: https://www.soapmakingforum.com/thr...ound-on-this-thread.68969/page-12#post-686353

edit: my mistake crossed out

To be honest, you don’t need Shea Butter to make nice soap. It is a nice to have not a must have but I live in Shea land so I might be wrong.

I would gladly send you some but the cost of shipping with tax would not be worth it to you.

I know you don’t NEED it but I’d like to use it as I haven’t before and I’d like to know the how it goes in regards to quality.. you gotta try everything ya know!!

I love shea butter in soap and can tell the difference when I leave it out in a recipe . I only use organic unrefined shea butter. Also use it in body butters and lip balms. I would eat it if I could! :D

I use what is cheapest, (unrefined or refined), when I am ready to buy. I usually buy in bulk and freeze what I am not going to use right away.
