I want to mix up a real thick shea butter base cream for facial use. I'm not planning on using water or emulsifiers.
Oils I have on hand are shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil and Vit E. Can anyone suggest a good mix? I'd only like to make 4-8 oz for the time being and I'm ok with it being quite greasy.
I'm new to making my own creams so I want something simple. I also have steric acid that I can use if its necessary.

I need something heavy occasionally. I generally use straight coconut oil and its fantastic but when I'm really dry, I have to use mineral oil based creams and I want something more natural.
I decided to just toss some shea, coconut oil, olive oil and glycerin together. I'd like to add some Vit E but I can't find it, will look harder tomorrow:)

One of my products I started about 2.5 years ago is a heavy butter cream and it has shea, mango, coconut, aloe, calendula infused OO. I use it on my face but very sparingly because without water it's intense and straight oils (made for a baby butt protective and healing layer). And I only use it about once a week otherwise I use my lotion.
And remember it's not going to actually moisturize persay since there is no water in it and the reason I don't use it daily. More chance also for clogged pores.
For face it really is better IMO to use a lotion of some kind if you're wanting to moisturize with it.

That being said.. IF you put it on right after shower and do a cool rinse to close your pores, that would possibly work nicely since it will lock in moisture that way. Make sense?

So I ended up with a absolute mess. The oils/butter alone was too greasy so I tried to make cream with water. Ended up separating and leaving a awful waxing film behind. I gave up and used it to make soap instead.

Oh that's too bad. :( you really would only need a dot on your finger for the whole
Face.
You could use your oils to make a lotion and then add some of your Shea to richen it up. You have an emulsifier right? Ewax by chance? My favorite.

Here's a very popular recipe for Whipped Shea compliments of Soap Queen
DW loves the 1.5 oz Whipped Shea and .5 oz Coconut Oil and 6 drops English Tea Rose FO

If you make a whipped butter with shea and any other oils you can add arrowroot powder which will help cut down the greasiness. I make a whipped shea with argan oil, meadowfoam seed oil, fractionated coconut oil and vitamin E and love it. You could also add other butters or oils as well. I have also used IPM (Isopropyl Myristate) to help with the greasiness and like that too.

One thing I love (and use on my face) is 100% whipped shea butter. It's a little greasy at first, but it does absorb fast.

I'm nearly 50, but my skin isn't particularly dry. It hasn't made me break out or clog pores, but cocoa butter in any lotion or body butter does if it is on my face.

I make one out of Mango Butter, Jojoba and Argan Oil that I love and use everyday. Doesn't make me break out either
