I know some of you make shea butter bars and was just wondering... what is the highest percentage of shea you've used?

Also, what other oils would be best to use with a high shea butter recipe?

TIA! :)

I bought a shea/coconut oil bar and it's pretty nice. I am guessing 80/20.

Haven't purchased me some shea yet, that's next on my list...

One of my recipes is the same as what Lindy said, except I have some palm oil in there too. I love shea, and I almost never soap without it now.

65% olive oil
15% coconut oil
20% shea butter
Makes a nice bar of soap or a place to start and play with the numbers.

Ashley - I made plans to make an 80% Shea 20% CO soap but decided not to. Instead I did two test batches to tweak my base recipe. Until recently I always soaped with 10% Shea Butter in every recipe so I made a small batch of that up with no other added special ingredients. Then I made another small batch using 5% Shea Butter and upping my Palm Oil to 15% (from 10%). When using these bars none of my testers (or me) can feel any difference.

My conclusion is that the unsaponifiables in Shea Butter and the properties it gives to soap continue even using small percentages. If you want to use lots of Shea Butter in something try whipping it up for a body butter!

Tanya :)

BTW - My usual oils used with SB are CO, OO, RBO & Palm
