I've been trying to join this facebook soap making group, but I'm not familiar enough with facebook to know if the group isn't accepting members or if something is not working right.

When I click to "join group", it is pending for a few minutes and then if I refresh the page, it no longer shows pending and I can again click to "join group". I've been trying to join for a couple weeks and I never get a response from the group, so I'm guessing something is wrong. If anyone can guide me on this, I'd appreciate it.

Is it the shaving soap makers? I just send a request to join and it seems to have went through just fine. Try joining again but this time don't refresh page. Its possible that when you refresh, its clicking the button again which would cancel the join request.

Or send me your email or FB name by PM, and I will send an invite to you to join. I cannot approve your request to join, but I can sure do an invite.

I think sometimes the admins don't approve requests to join if you don't have soapy stuff publicly visible on your FB page -- they're looking for evidence that the request comes from a real soaper, not a spammer. I've made some of my soap pics public on FB for this reason.

Yes, shaving soap makers.

I've tried everything from refreshing right away to waiting a couple days to revisit the page. How does one contact an admin?

I'm really quite new to facebook and just noticed I have a note (chat) from the admin of the group, saying that since I don't have soap on my facebook page that there is no evidence that I make soap. This is the first group that has not let me join.

Well there's a lot of abuse by spammers, so I don't blame them for being cautious. If they don't, the groups can get really awful -- full of trolls, ads, and weirdness. This is absolutely no reflection on you as a person -- please don't be offended. Get some pics on your FB account that are publicly visible and show you making soap -- you'll be fine after that.

I second the thicker skin suggestion - they just want to see that you soap before letting you join, which is perfectly reasonable really.

Where did you get the impression that I was offended? I was simply trying to figure out a way to join the group.

Anyway, all's good. I learned the secret handshake and I'm in.
