Hi- I'm interested in making a shaving cream, gel (or whatever) that I can put into one of those liquid soap bottles with a nozzle that makes it come out foamy. But I don't know what consistency I should make it or if I can get it thick enough for a proper shave (it's for a tough man's beard). Does anyone know a recipe that will work for this? I want to custom scent it with black licorice fragrance. My bf is so lazy that he wouldn't dream of using a bar shaving soap or cream/foam in a jar. He'd have to take the lid off a jar, or actually rinse off a brush >gasp< Too much work, he says  I was thinking of grating a ready-made shaving soap and melting it, if it won't stop up the nozzle. But liquid soap might not be thick enough... I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Mallory

Grated bar soap won't work; you could go for diluted liquid soap; about 90% diluted.

Or better yet; if it's too much work to take a lid of a jar, it's too much work to make him anything

That attitude gets you nowhere and IMO that's not a BF, that's a very beardy 5 year old

Shaving Foam

Hi dagmar88- Thanks for the reply- yeah, he's just a big ol' hairy kid sometimes. I think I'll make him a soap for Easter with bunnies on it, in some kiddie scent like jelly beans. Maybe he'll find the motivation to lift it up from the soap dish, lol. Anyway, the liquid soap thing was what I orginally planned, but I did want something thicker and creamier that could go through the nozzle and be foamy. Something that would cling to his face more. But I'm probably on a quest for the impossible, as always.

You know, you try and you try to make something for your loved ones and somehow, my 'roomies' seem to prefer the store-bought stuff...

I hope you find something that works for yours!

Shaving Foam

Oh, I know how that goes Catmehndi! They're so touched that you made it yourself... but...

I should just stick to the dollar stores when it comes to my bf. If I bought him anything more expensive he'd probably just end up playing with the box  But I'm trying to get him to appreciate the better ingredients in my own concoctions.. HA! (I can dream, can't I? lol)

Oh Dear.. seems men are the same the world over! LOL

I made some for my man in a nice spun aluminium tin and gave it to him with the shaving brush, he used it once! refused to use it again and I refused to buy him any off the shelf stuff, so one day, he went and bought his own! :(

I too am thinking of how I might be able to create something that will make him want to change from store bought chemical concoctions to a more holistic blend of goodies from my own kitchen. :D

Ah.. the joys of retraining children!

Maybe we can trick them by pouring our products into their commercial empties....

I know someone who made their own sunscreen but the school wouldn't accept it so she poured it into a coppertone bottle!

OMG.. thats brilliant!!! dont' know why you have to justify where you get your sunscreen from??? Thats brilliant though. :D

And yep, think you're definitely onto something however, it's a pressure can that hubby gets his shaving foam from :S ugh... crap in a fuzz bottle!!!

Do NOT marry him.

The lather from self foaming bottles is very loose, I don't know that he'd like it for shaving at all. Bit I could be wrong.

hehe Carebear (sorry it's taken me soo long to reply... :S ) Well, no, we're not married, but we've been together for 19 years. LOL.

He loves the soap, just doesn't do well with the shaving stuff, that you don't just smear on the face. I hate the stuff myself, cause I truly hate the smell, so chemically stinky! Im also trying to wean him onto a natural deodorant, but he's not willing to even try that :(

Im thinking though, he's going away camping at the end of October, so I might make him something to take with him, and swap his regular crap out of his bag and replace it with my stuff :) I use it, and he's never said I stink bad or anything, and I know it works. LOL.

the Fun of it all huh? lol
