so how did it go? and pics if you have them :)

So.... about this dancing funnel technique... lol

I got too excited about trying to many things, and ended up trying to do it all in one recipe. The process was all bad but the outcome is what I’d call perfectly imperfect! [emoji6]

First, I decided to do a large batch. Then, I decided to add a new ingredient that I’ve never worked with before, rice flour. Finally, I decided to use a scent I’ve never used before and I’m still not accustomed to reading scent stats to figure out if it accelerates trace or causes ricing or all that good stuff.

I mixed my oils, added my lye, blended very minimally, added the rice flour, added my FO, split the batch and colored half of it with activated charcoal. I didn’t see it at first but after a brief stirring, I noticed the mixture had a graininess too it. Almost like apple sauce. Because I added rice flour and have worked with rice flour in the kitchen, I assumed the texture was from the rice. It didn’t occur to me that it could be the start of ricing from the FO.

So instead of pouring into bottles and attempting the dancing funnel technique, I just poured it into my mold, did a few swirls then call it a day. It was @Dawni that mentioned it could’ve been ricing and the FO May separate. Sure enough, a small amount of FO did separate and seep out. It also saponified a little hot, causing a crack and what looks like ash?

I let it sit a few days before cutting, which I did tonight, so without further adieu:

WOW you had some issues didn't you!! the soap still looks nice. what FO did you use? and are you inclined to try again with the knowledge gained from the first time?

I used an earl grey/apple scent. And yeah, I will try again but I will have to keep it simple. The main goal was to get the technique and I lost track of that goal. Next time I’ll get it done right!
