shampoo & conditioner base

can anyone recommend a shampoo and conditioner base that they have tried and really like? I want to package up some just to give out to family for gifts (already thinking ahead for the holidays!). I have tried shampoo in the past and it made my hair so tangled, I almost didn't get the brush through it. I want something that people with long hair can use without this problem, but also be as simple and natural as possible....no sulfates and such......any suggestions????
