I have been making syndet bars for a year or so and while I know this is regarding "soap" shampoo bars I think you might be hard pressed to find a recipe that does not require a rinse due to the fact almost all CP/HP soap has a pretty high PH. And while this is cool on the body and hands on the hair it can make for a really funky hair day. The rinse (like vinegar) is what closes the hair cuticle that will be wide open after the use of a high PH soap. Additionally real soap can leave deposits on hair due to minerals in your water - has something to do with negative ions and all the cool chemistry stuff. The rinse removes/breaks these bonds so you don't have filmy hair. I know many don't like to hear this and poo poo detergents, but they are much easier to work when dealing with hair!

I have to say that I believe it is all about hair type. My shampoo bars are all just my normal recipe with extra castor oil and a high superfat. I wash my hair with this bar every time I wash my hair and even when I don't use a conditioner, and I never use a rinse, my hair is better behave and much healthier looking than it ever was using traditional shampoo.

Clarifying

I use the ACV when I want to clarify my scalp, which I luv btw, I've use both soap bars and shampoo bars to wash my hair and haven't experience any build up. It depends on the individual's hair type and whether they're in a region that's known to have hard water, or they're using well water or water softening system. Natural soaps are way better than what's sold on shelves in big retailers or beauty supply stores.

hair type and like I said water type and maybe other variables. I have city water and it's hard as a rock - I have to rinse my shower every time I use handmade soap cuz if not I get a horrible film on my tub. I shrudder to think what I would have to do if I used my well water! LOL

I don't have hard water and homemade soap makes my hair feel funny... when it's wet it feels like a load of wet fishing twine, then once it's dry it is all over the place.

I have long, fine hair. I've tried a few different blends and they all do the same thing. Not pleasant. I have been wanting to try a real "shampoo bar" but just don't want to shell out the dough to take the risk.

I have softened well water and I only use my soap for my hair. I have fine, oily hair that is prone to damage and I have never had healthier hair with less split ends and I have to wash it a lot less.

I find that the "soap scum" that is always discussed is body oils and dirt that the soap is bonding with and cleaning from the skin.

Soap is a molecule that is hungry for dirt on one end and oil on the other and when they bind, you get a film. Nothing to be too upset about I think, it's just doing it's job. :D
