I was just looking at soap on FireArt....it's like Etsy. I love to look at soap. Anyway, I noticed a chatter forum and went there. They were having a conversation about not selling. Maybe one in 6 months.

Has anyone had any luck selling on Etsy or FireArt? Or anywhere for that matter, online.

I don't sell mine yet , but that doesn't seem very good at all.
I am curious too how websites do .

My website is starting to make me a couple of sales - these are from customers who want to use their paypal account rather than cash and others who are ordering from a distance. I believe repeat business and referral will be what builds my internet business as well as the tourist. It will allow them to be able to order more when they've run out. For me it's a planned slow process for my websales....but I can see the growth already - I've had 3 sales off the site in the last 6 weeks.....

Lindy, I would be buying your soap if I didn't live so far away! That website would be perfect for me.

Kitn, I do not have a website as yet and will probably start with one or two Aussie sites which work like etsy or ebay without the listing fees. I can use them as an online presence for repeat customers (when I get them  ) without having to create my own just yet. I do not think I would rely on intenet generated sales - it is too hard for people to find you unless they know where to look.

I do fairly well on etsy. You can not just open a shop, stock your shelves & expect to move product though. You must market you etsy shop to people outside of etsy & you must draw etsy shopers into your specific shop. You need to market everyday. Whether that is having your shop address in your tag line & making losts of posts on makeup forums, placing small ads on blogs or anything else you can do to get your name out there. The amount of time I spend marketing my shop directly influences my # of sales. When I get behind on shipping, I stop marketing so I don't get sales untill I am caught up aaagain & visa-versa.

If you look at people that have shops on both etsy & artfire, they probably have had 100 sales on etsy to every 1 on artfire. That may be because artfire is new & have a much smaller customer base or it may be because those people market their etsy shop harder than they market their artfire shop. I set up an artfire shop just to see & had no sales in 2 months, ut I did zero marketing.

That is what I wondered topcat , I really don't know quite what I am going to do yet , besides local events and stores.

Lindy that is good news for you.I keep reading that websites are pretty much invisible unless you are huge. So that isn't necessarily so ..Yeah!!

Dixie I love looking at soap too ,( it's more fun than a movie ) . I like seeing what is out there and what really sells.
