I've seen CP soap topped with sea salt for a beautiful finish and I'm thinking about trying it with a melt and pour recipe. Is this ok? I read somewhere it makes a "weepy" mess with Dead Sea salt but ok with epsom salt? Any feedback would be appreciated :)

I have never tried it but you can always try a small soap. You may have to be careful about choosing the mold because for MP usually the bottom becomes the top. Also, you may want to wait for a few minutes for sprinkling the Epsom salt on the soap until the top of the soap hardens a little and don't forget to spritz the Epsom salt with rubbing alcohol.

Good luck and do post pictures of the soap when done :)

I don't think I would use Epsom Salts either. I use Pink or Black Salt or sea salt or kosher salt. I would also use a medium grain salt for on top. Give it a try and see how it works for you.

I wouldn't use it, either. According to Wikipedia (not the most reliable, but hey, it works!):

Magnesium stearate is a major component of "bathtub rings." When produced by soap and hard water, magnesium stearate and calcium stearate both form a white solid insoluble in water, and are collectively known as "soap scum."

So, calcium or magnesium + soap = scum! Sodium (sea salt, or even just table salt) would be just fine.

I just hope everyone that tops soap with coarse grain salt warns customers to wash/rub it off before using. Coarse and even some medium grain salt can cut the skin or at the least be quite abrasive
