Same batch, but months later they smell different

About 10 months ago, I made a batch of HP with Just Scent's Coconut Extreme. The bars that I did in a column mold have a gross burnt plastic smell, but the bars in individual molds still smell nice. Same batch. I am thinking that the column mold stayed hotter longer, or maybe got hotter, and that affected the scent? Anybody have a similar experience?

It's probably becasue it got hotter. I've not used any coconut scents in soap as yet as I have read that they either morph or disappear. I do have a couple I want to play with but will try not to gel them I think.
