I'm a 28 year old soapstress from the landlocked state of Indiana - and it is perhaps part of my soul-aching desire to be close to the ocean that my soaps/salts/sundries are pirate themed. Hence the username.
I started making soap about 8 years ago. I've always had sensitive skin, prone to dryness and irritation, so that was really my reasoning behind trying to make my own products. Guess what? Homemade soap is nice to my skin. ;)
Somewhere in my adventures, I had a baby - and I stopped making soap. Between nursing and naptime, finding time to set up a chemistry lab in the kitchen fell by the wayside. But, my little kraken is 2 1/2 now and minds well enough to be trusted to keep out from underfoot when I'm "cooking soap." Although, he just dumped fish food in my bed while I was typing this.

Welcome to the forum :) Waving to you from above (WI).

Your little guy sounds a lot like my 2 1/2 yr old son. He knows to stay away when I'm soaping and stays out of my soap stuff, but he gets into everything else.

Sometimes I let him "help" by pouring the oils into the crockpot - and then I kick him out of the kitchen as soon as I pull out the lye. His favorite part is smelling the bars while I'm trying to wrap them. That, and stealing my tape. Children love stealing tape...

Ahoy AnneBonny! Welcome to the forum! :)

I know what you mean about the soul-aching desire to be close to the ocean. I grew up where the ocean was never more than 10-15 minutes away from me, but now I live in the desert where the nearest ocean is 8 hours away and I miss it alot.

IrishLass :)

Hello and welcome!

I wondered about the username when I saw it. The first thing I thought was "Pirate?" Do you also have red hair?

Glad to have you come aboard! :D

Love your avatar!

I'm about 14 hours' drive from the nearest ocean myself. Wish it weren't so. Aargh!
