Since this was my first attempt at a salt soap I honestly don't know if the shea is good or not since I don't have anything to compare it to. Incentinve to make another batch! But I like the way it feels so I guess it can't be that bad. :D

So do those of you who love salt bars use them only on your face? I was referring to not liking using them in the shower, all over....but maybe I'll try it just on my face, might like it better.....will do an experiment for a week or so, see if it makes a difference to my opinion. Always willing to try something new, willing to change my opinion.

I usually use a sugar scrub on my face but every so often I will use a salt bar. I like using them on my arms & legs for exfoliation. I especially like them on my arms because my skin feels very soft afterwards.

eta: I prefer the salt bar in which I had used heavy cream for half the liquid.

I like a bit of shea in my salt bars. I've trialed straight coconut oil, then CO + castor & then co + castor + shea. I prefer the last version. It seems to have a slightly filmy feel left on the skin, thinking perhaps this is caused from the shea. I like how that feels.
Woodi, I like them all over in the shower but this is me. I'm a true lover of salt bars. I also use them on my face followed by a hemp oil moisturiser.

I've only used it a couple of times now but I like it all over. It makes my skin feel really soft. I have used it on my face. It's not bad, but I don't know if I'm just very sensitive on my face or what but I don't think it's my favorite as far as facial bars go.

Okay, I'm sold. I'll try shea next time.

You sound like me. I have sensitive skin so I have to be careful with what I use on my face. But occasionally during hot & humid weather, using a salt bar for my face seems to be just what I need. I don't use it directly on my face. I rub it on a washcloth and then use the washcloth on my face.

I like the salt bars for my face but not every single day. I use a regular cream cleanser in between also. I tend to lather up between my hands and then a quick wash and rinse for my face.

I dont use anything else in the shower, my family uses the other soaps I make. I make a hop soap that my family loves. I boil the hops in water for about 40 minutes and cool for the lye.

Is the hops like an exfoliant? Sorry if this is off topic.

Off topic but could any of you offer some advice?

I only hot process with the double boiler method.

If I was to add 75 percent salt at the end of the hot processing, would this be feasible?

Or would I instantly have a solution of hard rocks, etc.?

Thanks for any info.

(Oh, I always add some FO at the end of the cook before molding......so I would be adding FO and the 75 percent salt at the same time.)

I only tried what you say once, and it's possible, if you work quickly. At that time I was trying a layered soap, and I wasn't quick enough to achieve that.

What works better for me is adding salt directly into the mold. Personally, I have used only individual molds, because I fear a larger piece may harden too quickly to cut neatly. If you have a spaced mold, it will be much easier.

This is how I go about it: sprinkle salt more towards the outside of the mold, then mix with a spoon handle, from outside towards the center.

Something I wanted to share is a Sunflower salt bar (SF at 60%, then PO, CO, stearic acid).

Only 2 weeks of cure, but since I had some time to kill today, I decided to do a lather test. It's got less salt than usual, you see here the 2 versions: one with 20%, the other with 40% salt. As you can see, it's not a big difference (each bar got a 30 seconds sponge rub).

Yes, the camera decided it likes better B&W pictures.

I think IrishLass uses coconut milk but I'm not postive. My last batch of salt bars had half CM and half water. I don't know how nice it will be and I won't know for a few more weeks.

My newest salt bar is mostly CO with some castor oil, 75% sea salt, 15% SF, and for half of the water I used coconut milk. I used a coconut FO too, to round out the coconut theme going on but it ended up smelling like burnt plastic. LOVE this soap, but the smell is nasty lol

I've done an all coconut milk as liquid salt bar. Didn't notice a difference. Not a big fan of the salt bar except for my face when it's oily.
