I just made my first batch of rtcp/whipped soap. I found a recipe online that said to whip it until it was the consistency of soft serve ice cream, or soft cream cheese.

I whipped and whipped and whipped (using almost the highest speed on my KitchenAid mixer) and it wasn't getting fluffy. When I whipped the oils it did, but then collapsed - I'm wondering if I whipped it too much then and that's why it didn't come back to a "whippy" state after I added the lye water.

After about 15 mins of whipping and it not changing in consistency, I decided to just pour it into my mold anyway. It was still pretty thick and looked like regular CP at trace, so I'm hoping it will still work. It did have bubbles and looked a little "foamy" so hopefully it will come out somewhat like a whipped soap, but I guess I'll find out in a couple of days!

For those of you that do rtcp - do you HAVE to get it to a thick whipped consistency before you pour it, or is that specifically for WHIPPED soaps? I know they are pretty much the same thing, but I'm wondering if you rtcp'ers just mix all the room temp stuff without a stand mixer?

Also, with rtcp are you supposed to insulate it so it will gel, or just leave it alone? I have a hard time insulating my regular CP to get a full gel - I'm not even sure if it's possible to gel rtcp?

I'm really hoping this works! I'll keep you all updated and post pics in a couple of days. Any info/tips anyone can give me on rtcp would be appreciated!

Here's the recipe I used:

25% lard
30% coconut
25% palm
15% olive
5% castor

To get the whippy consistancy you need to use mostly firm oils, like crisco and lard. Your lye water should be chilled as not to melt your whipped mixture. I add a little at a time, mixing thoroughly in between.

I used
9 oz lard
4 oz crisco
2 oz coconut
1 oz castor

Hope that helped.

Thanks! I think that may have been my problem - the lye water was a tiny bit warm. It wasn't hot, but more like lukewarm. It probably melted the oils a little as the mixture did get more "creamy" and less light and whippy when I added the warm lye water.

Next time I will make sure it is well chilled!

also, you need to whip all of the solid oils first, then slowly add the liquid oils. but the consistancy should be more like icing for a cake. (that is if you ever made butter cream icing)

Yes, and it should only take about 10 min to whip up. It reminded me of cool whip.

Thanks!

Is there a point where it's whipped "too much"? I know I've read some other posts about whipping shea and they talk about catching it at "just the right time" because if it's overwhipped it will collapse and not re-whip. I noticed that this may have happened when I whipped the oils. They got VERY whippy (like Cool Whip!!) after 5 minutes or so, and I thought "what the heck, might as well let it go a little longer" - and then when I looked at it about a minute later it was a lot LESS whippy. Did I whip it too long and is that maybe what caused my problem?

Okay, so a little update... it's almost 24 hours later and I just unmolded it. It did harden (took a little longer than the regular cp I've made) and it looks pretty much like CP soap. There are some very small bubbles in it, but it doesn't look as whipped as I'd hoped.

Oh well, I think I've figured out the problem thanks to the PP'ers, so I'll try again! Atleast it still turned out like normal CP and I can still use it! :D

I don't know if it can be whipped to much. I've always stopped when I got to the cool whip stage out of fear of mixing it to much, but then I was concerned about not mixing it enough.

If it got there after only 5 minutes then I'd say that was enough.

Best of luck!

When you whip it, and it acts right, then you can add colours and swirls. My wife loves my whipped GM soap. It should float like this;
