Just started reading Kevin Dunns book and he suggests getting a roaster oven in order to do some of the experiments in the book. Regardless of the book or the experiments, how many people actually use a roaster oven for soapmaking. They are not all that expensive so I will probably get one because I really would like to go through the book and do these experiments. Just wondering if people use them in their normal everyday soapmaking.

I have a huge roaster oven that I rarely use anymore. What’s he using it for in the book? Thanks for reminding me I have it though!! Maybe I should use it for CPOP! I’ve been carrying my triple batches upstairs to my oven and it makes me super nervous! I could plug the roaster oven in downstairs in my garage where I make soap!!!

In the book he is using it to speed up saponification for experiments involving making one bar in a tiny one bar mold. The book is kind of old at this point and the company he referenced for the one bar molds is out of business. I am pretty sure some people do use them for CPOP. That is why I made this post. Hoping to hear from some people that actually have used them before.

In 2004, Bed Bath and Beyond had a deal from Black and Decker of $ 40.00 which gave you a Blender, an Iron and a Toaster Oven. The Blender and Iron are still working beautifully.
The Toaster Oven has remained in my storage unopened:(
I should open it and see whether it's still good:)

Someone here posted about using her roaster oven for CPOP pretty recently, I think, but I can't find it right now. She may have used another term, like turkey roaster or some other similar label.

Ahhh, see this thread: Silicone loaf molds

There may have been another as well...

I’ll post a photo of mine. I used to use it for doing hot stone massage. 60 smooth lava basalt stones all heated up...mmmm, it was pretty nice!

I use my little toaster oven to force gel phase all the time. Works like a charm and the 10 inch loaf molds fit perfectly.

Never thought about using a toaster oven. I have one that I brought back from cleaning out my parents house after they died ten years ago and have used it once. May have to try it out!

A lot of people in this thread have been saying "toaster ovens" My original post was referencing "Roaster Ovens" not toaster ovens. Something like this.Roaster Oven

I have a ROASTER oven like the one referenced by @SoapDaddy70, although I call it a roaster pan.

It is fantastic for rendering lard and tallow, and also for rebatching large amounts of soap scraps.

I have never tried using it to force gel, or as others say, to "CPOP" my soap. I'd be concerned about the wooden molds or HDPE molds sitting right on the heated surface of the inner pan.

If I were going to use my Electric Turkey Roaster / Roaster Oven / Portable Electric Roaster for CPOP, I would do it the same as I do in my regular oven: Pre-heat, then turn it off prior to placing the soap inside. AND I would do the same as in my oven in regards to protecting the surfaces of my regular oven. I NEVER place any mold directly on my oven racks. I ALWAYS use a protected tray inside the oven, upon which I also lay down either cardboard or lightweight towels to protect the tray in case any soap were to spill over. I would do the same inside my Turkey Roaster if I used it for CPOP.

But it certainly seems like a good alternative when the kitchen stove isn't available, and the mold fits. I suspect mold size would be more the issue than protecting the mold or the Roaster, because that's the easy part.
