Hello, I'm brand spankin new to the forum and soap making. In fact I am so new I am waiting for my oils to come in the mail. I got hooked because a soap I bought at a craft fair was wonderful. I am trying to replicate it using the ingredient list and soapcalc, but not happy with cleansing numbers being so high. Any suggestions?

Olive oil 50%
Palm Kernel Oil 20%
Coconut oil 20%
Castor Oil 5%
Sweet Almond oil 5%

I tried changing the superfat from 5 to 10 to affect cleansing - nothing.

Hardness 29 - 54 39
Cleansing 12 - 22 26
Conditioning 44 - 69 56
Bubbly 14 - 46 30
Creamy 16 - 48 18
Iodine 41 - 70 58
INS 136 - 165 150

Also, I am planning on adding the castor oil and sweet almond at trace. Is that correct or not?

Oh . . . This is so fun.

Hmmmm, I would actually use palm oil instead of palm kernel. Do that and it will be very similar to my main soap recipe. A very nice and bubbly recipe.

With all of that coconut you don't really need the palm kernel.

Add all of your oils at the same time- adding some at trace will not do a darn thing in cold process soap.

Good luck!

You have both coconut oil and palm kernel oil in your recipe. Both of those are cleaning oils which is why your cleaning is so high. You probably meant to use palm oil as opposed to palm kernel oil.

Also, I don't know that it will make any difference to add your castor/almond at trace. I just mix mine in with the rest of the oils. The fewer things I have to do at trace the better.
