I read on the forum someone rendered Fatback for soap. That is the on,y thing my butcher had so I bought 5 lbs to experiment.
The process wit well but the yield was disappointing. It was a lot of work to get a mere 1lb. 2oz. of Lard. I can purchase four times that for about the same price. This fat also seems much softer than my store bought lard.
My question is, when I use it in my cold process soap, what SAP value should I use on the SoapCalc? The lard! Even though this is not made from the pig's kidney fat. It looks more like the viscosity of Palm oil. I don't want to miss calculate.
