Hello all! I was wondering if you have any thoughts about this recipe?

castor 5%
coconut 15%
lard 35%
Olive 15%
RBO 15%
safflower (high oleic) 15%

I have really dry skin/eczema and want to have a nice creamy/moisturizing bar that doesn't lose anything in the hardness factor.

Does this look good? is there anything you'd add to boost that conditioning factor? Thanks!

It looks like a nice recipe.

To simplify, you could use OO or RBO but not both. They behave pretty similarly in CP soap.

If your skin is dry, you might want to up your superfat to 7-8% instead of the default 5%.

Any reason for having olive, RBO, and high oleic safflower all together? They all have similar properties as far as I'm aware, and it'd be easier to measure out one oil, rather than three. Also, I've heard that simpler is better for getting conditions like eczema under control. (Don't quote me on it, I'm lucky enough that it's just acne I struggle with!)

Thanks everyone! I noticed a difference when I started mixing OO/rbo. For some reason seemed to feel a bit silkier? Maybe it was all in my head. :p

looks good to me. a bit complicated though, and on the soft side. how much SF are you planning to have? might wanna be careful with the coconut if you have very dry skin. if you stick with the recipe, i might bump up the SF to be above 5 (maybe 7). conditioning level is already good too with 61.

you can also simplify the recipe using just lard, coconut, olive, and castor. something like:

olive 45%
lard 35%
castor 5%
coconut 15%

olive will contribute to hardness at the end. we all know how hard a castile is :)

this is just a rough suggestion of course, as my skin is (although dry) is pretty okay with high coconut amount and low SF. perhaps it's the climate i live in. so, i'm trying to guess what's gonna be good for your skin based on the soap qualities on soapcalc.

nothing beats than making a small batch and test it yourself..
