;-)I have a recipe for shampoo bars. it calls for 1 1/2 oz. of tea tree oil. can I use 1 oz and not change the recipe? do you take into account the essential oil you put in for the lye calculation? thanks Julie

Normally essential oils are not figured as part of the saponifying oils. It should be a little less fragrant(and that is not a bad thing in tea tree), but otherwise fine.

No do not count the essential oil in the lye calculation. Essential oils do not saponify. They are oils, but not triglycerides.
