When making soap in a crockpot should I first allow the oils and the lye to reach
the same temperature before I began blending? I saw a video on youtube but the
man making the soap didn't specify. He just pour the lye in the water then melted
his oils, then poured the lye water mixture in the crockpot with the melted oils and blended them. He didn't mention anything about lye and oil termperatures.

I don't usually take the temps so I can't say where they fall when I blend them. I melt my solid oils, add the liquid ones to that and let it cool a bit. I also let my lye solution cool a bit too before adding it to the oils, but I don't stress about it. As long as they aren't so hot as to cause a volcano then it's all good IME.

ETA: This advice is for HP. For CP, I pay more attention to temps depending on what type of FO, whether I want to swirl, or layer, etc.

For HP I still let my lye/water sit and cool about 20 minutes or so before adding to my oils but that's because i use sugar and sometimes Milk type liquids to my batch and I don't wanna carmelize them.. I know many who are able to soap immediately after dissolving Lye into liquid with no problems. Hopefully more will chime in with their experience.
