Hello to all! I've just registered with the forum. A few weeks ago someone gave me a handmade bar of soap from upstate New York. I loved it and it got me to thinking about making my own. Well here I am with my first bars of melt and pour base coming in the mail today! I'm waiting on a few more items and then I'm going to start making my first bars of soap. I thought for my first project I'd make a gardeners soap. One of my first questions to all of you soapy experts is this. I looked around my kitchen to see what I might add to it besides the recipe ingredients. I have some Celestial Teas. Can I make use of them in a melt and pour base? Thanks for any replies!

hi, welcome to the forum and to the addiction :)

you can def add some additives to your mp base, tea included. although i have not personally used it, i don't see why you can't sprinkle some tea to your base. it would be a bit scratchy though (i think). you can also add powdered milks, honey, oatmeal, and lotsa things basically. there is a good rule of thumb for adding additives, which i'm not really familiar. i hope someone else will chime in for this issue.

That was interesting I made lavender soap with dried out buds and a nice flower of lavender on top! after a few weeks it look awful x

Thanks for the quick answers! That was a great article Aline! I ordered a small amount of base, so I think I might stick with the recipe I found for the gardeners soap. Maybe on the next batch I can experiment more. The tea that I considered was a black cherry berry blend that smells just wonderful when brewed and has a beautiful purplish color.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

I have used green tea and rosemary in my MP soap and I absolutely love it! !!!!! Just make sure not to add a lot of it because it will give out color later on. I had also added tea tree essential oil. The first picture is of the soap JUST made. After a week the soap looked like pictures 2 and 3. (Front and back) see how tea gave out it's color?

Good luck with your soap and do post pictures!

Thanks!
What a difference! I see that I have a lot to learn. I made my first soaps yesterday. I made two kinds, one with a goats milk base. I added some coconut oil and lavender EO to that base. The other I used an extra hard base and added the coconut oil, vanilla FO and a dash of powdered cinnamon. I had wanted a shampoo bar and thought the goats milk base would be the best for that, but it turned out the other one made a very nice shampoo bar with lots of good lather. I've found a new hobby!
