Hi! I'm new to the forum, so I hope this is the correct place to ask this :)

I made my first body butter tonight and it did not turn out the way I expected it to. It smells nice, absorbs nice, but is a little greasier than I expected it to be, but then again i have only used a couple store bought body butters, and never used a handmade one. I am posting the recipe I used below and was wondering if someone could let me know if it was done right, or if I used too much/little of something. After melting everything and combining it, I let it cool and thicken. I then whipped it with a hand mixer till it was nice and fluffy (perhaps 5 mins), and spooned it into jars.

I just checked on it though, and it has become the consistency of a mousse. Again, I do not know if this is normal for handcrafted butters. I only made a small batch in case I did mess it up, so I am fine with scrapping this if it cannot be fixed (if it is wrong) and trying something new with these ingredients.

I used:

1/2 cup Shea Butter
1/2 cup Mango Butter
1 TBSP Coconut Oil
3 ml Chai Latte Fragrance
1 ml Vitamin E (to prevent oil spoilage)

I do have some kaolin clay I got to use in a shaving bar recipe for my husband if adding some of that would help with the greasiness (I'm making my first soap this week too and I am stoked!).

Thanks for any knowledge you can share with the newbie, it is very appreciated.

That's about the same as I use for my butter except I do calendula oil also. And with straight butters and oils it will be oily. Mango has a drier feel and you can increase that and decrease the Shea.
Without water and making a 'lotion' of sorts.. You end up with a more
Topical product like this.
I don't use additives much.. Just a few in all my products so someone might be able to help with the clay. But just thinking about it.. I don't know how it would help
With penetrating the product better.

Try Dry Flo, (modified tapioca starch), in your body butter to lessen the greasy feel.

Thanks for the replies. I have been using it and really like it, even though it is not the whipped consistency I expected (I actually like the solid melting instantly on the skin) and it is a little greasier than I expected. A learning experience, and I will definitely try the tapioca :)
