i've read that it is ok to use between 15-30 % avocado oil......i have used it in place of jojoba oil in a recipe, having run it through soap calc.....and these are the numbers i get

49 hardness
21 cleansing
46 condition
21 bubbly
28 creamy

for the following recipe:
(with rounding of decimals)
avocado oil 16%
cocoa butter 16%
coconut oil 31%
olive oil 22%
palm oil 16%

to me this seems like it would be a good recipe- however when i've made it..it consistantly is too oily/soft/

i've been real careful with weighing/measuring ingredients/water/lye
i've used the default % water of oils as 38%
lye concentration was 27%

i've come to the conclusion that using this much avacado oil isn't good....or am i missing something.

I have some avocado oil sitting around that I haven't gotten around to using, so I'm no expert here.

That said, I have soaped something similar to that recipe, minus the avocado oil, and it was a nice, hard bar once cured. So I would guess that the avocado oil is the culprit?

I have been using quite a bit recently, about 8% for me. Most of my recipes are not necessarily rock hard (certainly hard though) because of the other oils that I use, but seems like 8% avocado does not alter my recipes' firmness.

i actually made a batch yesterday afternoon, using 37% avocado oil and i unwrapped today about 21 hours later and it is nicely hard, harder than my 50% olive oil batches. i prefer 3:1 avocado oil to olive oil ratio. i feel avocado has more nutrients and hardens quicker. IMHO.

I am happy to see you use such a high % of avocado with no problems. I agree with all that you said with the nutrients. I have been using a lot of avocado oil recently for that reason.

i waited an extra 12 hours and tried to cut the loaf again and actually the bars are quite nice now....i would not call them hard, not yet, but they are coming around. it is about 90% humidity here lately and so maybe that has something to do with it. i'll post pix when i get home a bit later.
