As I started soaping in January, until today I had not experienced hot weather soaping.

Perhaps deciding to soap on a day when we are possibly breaking a high temperature record was not wise, but it was now or never if you know what I mean!!

Anyway, I had a few thoughts while I could feel the sweat beading underneath my face mask and safety googles---

First, I know that there are many soapers on the forum who soap practically year round in high temperatures. My hat is off to you. I could hardly wait to take off my long sleeved shirt and sweat pants to pop into the shower! 8)

Second, while it was nice to scoop out my coconut oil in a half liquid state, I wondered if the heat would affect my soap in any way. CO was my only hard ingredient, but I think I've read that unlike pko which needs a stir, it was ok to use in a half liquid/half solid state. (I did not stir it)

Lastly, is there anything those of us new to soaping in the heat might want to know? :)

Thanks,

Jude

I agree, i soaped yesterday, it was a record 97 in mn, in May! my coc oil was mush, palm kinda soft too, didnt mind that.

I don't bother with the goggles and long sleeve shirts. At most I might wear a pair of nitrile gloves.

I walk on the wild side  I've also been known to eat apples without washing them first.

You are wild Daniel!! I am famously known as being a clutz, so I really protect myself to the max!!

Be careful, gotta watch that fruit!!! :)

Jude I have just recently got done with a summer where my CO is totally liquid....it is always that warm here in summer! Having to scoop it out of a tub now is just such a pain! RTCP takes on a new meaning when the avg daily temp is 38 degrees celcius (100 f). I haven't done anything different when soaping on a hot day....although I do get gel very easily and I always store curing soap in a cooler cupboard :D

Tanya :)

Tanya,

Yes!! My soap did gel very quickly!

Guess I won't complain about the 92 degrees here when you're averaging around 100! :)

when it's hot I have been known to soap in shorts, tank top and bare feet. I wear prescription glasses so no goggles, and I don't wear gloves either. Yes I am a very bad example.

No coconut does not need to be stirred, or PKO either. It's palm that needs to be stirred because the stearic will separate and settle to the bottom.

Thanks for the info on the palm. I bet if I had used that today it would have been wilting ---- just like me!!! :)

I transfered my CO and PO into the fridge the other day, that's almost 100 pounds of what was turning into soup. I was worried about the oils going rancid. And I came home to a bleeding box of PO so it was time to solidify them. I'm now worried about my EO's, should I also refridgerate them to keep their essences alive????

EO's are supposed to be kept in a cool dark place, but I'm not sure about refrigerating them. We have central air conditioning here so I've never had to worry about it. Sorry, I'm not much help.

OMG do you not value being able to see . I have had soap splash onto my goggles . I am super careful, but **** happens .I have eaten apples too without washing them but losing your eyesight is a whole different ball game.
I would really hate to hear that you had lost your vision because of a lye splash . It would be so preventable. Have you seen the pictures of the 2 year little boy that pulled the lye pitcher onto himself , his eyes will never be the same.
