Hello!

Yesterday I played a bit with the olive and coconut oils and tried to make 3 different batches with different percentages of coconut oil:

Olive 90% / coconut 10 % water concentration 38% SF 8%
Olive 80% / coconut 20 % water concentration 38% SF 8%
Olive 70% / coconut 30 % water concentration 38% SF 10%

I warmed the coconut in the microwave, mixed it with the olive oil and added the lye solution (room temperature) and stirred until trace, poored them into the molds and covered them with a blanket. I have just uncovered them and try to unmold them. However all of them are extremely soft and greasy. Further, the outer part of the soaps is yellowish while the inner part is white... :? I am extremely surprised about the results, any clue? I have heard olive/coconut soaps are very easy to do... :(

Do you think I got a false trace? Or maybe the water concentration was too high?!?!?!

Please help...

Cheers!!

It's better to use less water when using a high percentage of olive so it will set up more quickly. You also soaped a little cool so the batches may not have held enough heat to fully gel. Leave them covered for a few more days and they should set up. If not, you can rebatch them.

I didn't discount the water the first time I made a bastile and it took days to set up even though it gelled. I don't remember how long it took but don't be discouraged if it even takes longer than a few days.

Exactly what Hazel said. Soaps that are high in olive oil usually are very soft for days if you use full water. Just let them sit for a day or so more & then check on them again.
