I was having a luncheon this week with my friends, so I made these sugar/m&P scrub cubes for them.
They were so pretty and smelled great, but I was soo disappointed in them, I didn't even want to give them away!
I had my daughter try one (of course, I tried one too) and she said it was like washing with a piece of plastic- absolutely nothing, no lather, no scrub, they did nothing.
Has anyone tried these? I got them off the SoapQueen TV tutorial- sugar, almond oil, M&P, color & fragrance. She usually has such good stuff! Anyone else ever try these??

Right, they don't lather. The added oil prevents that. The base is simply MP soap. It's the nature of the formulation, and not a flaw in it. If you want layering scrub you can try using foaming bath whip, but that doesn't lather any appreciable amount either, especially with added oils.

As for not scrubbing, did you add the full amount of sugar and follow the instructions? Use granulated sugar? No reason it wouldn't scrub - the sugar acts like sand. So that part confuses me.

I understand about the oil, I don't know why I mentioned lather, I guess the M&P is simply to hold things together.
I did use the full amount of sugar (I believe it was 6 oz.) and followed the recipe exactly, but I guess the m&P holds things together too well, because I'm not getting any scrubbing action either, I mean these little cubes are solid, nothing really comes off of them (like the sugar).
Maybe I'll try another batch, maybe I did do something wrong, thanks!
Ohhh....I measured my sugar in a fluid ounce measuring cup, could that be it????

Always used a scale to get your weights...

They are very pretty and you need to use them under running water...

I'm grateful for any gifts from my friends - these are so cute! I don't think I would have care that they worked or not - the intention was there!

You can play with the formula for next time.

They are cute! That's why I was so disappointed.
I'm sure it was my measuring, because literally a grain of sugar does not come off of them, lol.
I tried again this morning just to be sure before I got rid of them

I think they're def worth trying again, tho!

wow, they are way pretty!!! Well done!!!

I have instructions on mine saying that you use one per shower. Take into the shower with you, hold for a short time under the tap/showerhead with warm water and then smoosh between palms to flatten it, then rub all over body. They are plenty scratchy like that - funny thing is, not everyone listens or follows instructions and I had a customer tell me the other day, she uses it as a solid scrub, like hold it and rub over wet skin. She gets about 4 uses out of each and she said it's plenty scrubby enough for that. I make mine a bit bigger, so I guess it is fairly easy to do and I might make a scrubby bar for those people instead, as it is more comfortable that way.

You have to add enough oils - I found I needed a titch more than what Anne Marie suggests in her recipe to make them soft enough and don't be stingy on the sugar either. There has to be just enough M&P to hold them together.

Ok! Thank you for the tip!
The extra oil makes sense...maybe a touch more oil and a touch less m&p?
I really do want them to work well, I'll let you know if they come out better the second time around :D

I have made those several times and in my experience as other posters have indicated, they are a one use type item. I wet mine, get it smooshy and then use it. Then use another one another day! Yours were very cute!

Have you tried the recipe again? I made these a few months ago. I did several different scents and decided to try one of each in the tub the next day. I nearly killed myself trying to get out as the tub was very oily. Lol! I decided it was because I used too many at once but haven't tried them again. I do remember them not mushing up properly, but after reading these comments I would like to try them again. So I was just wondering what you thought after your second try.

Lilla, I have not tried them again, because at the moment I am trying to learn CP and have spent all my time on that.
When I do finally get to them, I will post my (hopefully better) results!

I use them several times. I don't smoosh, but rather cup the cube in the palm of my hand and scrub with it. Mine are quite abrasive, so I'm not sure where lies the issue with yours.

Umm...I just measured out 6 fluid oz. of sugar, which comes out to 10.6 oz. on my new digital scale.
I think I know where things went wrong!

Oops! Hey that is how we learn though! :)
