Just realized that my 28 oz. of oils (combo of coconut, GV shortening, Palm, olive and castor) used to exactly fill a Pringles can will perfectly fill a 1 qt. mason jar. Thinking I will pre-measure several jars for future batches and have them waiting in my soap cupboard. That way, next time I feel like whipping up a batch, all I have to do is measure the lye and water and I'm off to the races. Combining the various oils is a huge part of the mess and cleanup. You could even premeasure for 2lb batches, and that should fit a mason jar as well. That way it would take 2 jars for a 4 lb loaf mold.

make sure you mark the jars so you know exactly what is in them, but yes, this is a quick way to whip up a batch of soap. Make sure that you love the mix that you pre-mix so that you don't decide that mix is not anything you would want to use again. I love to try new recipes. I do have some favorites, but I still try to tweak them when I make them. I do that with any type of project I am working on, trying to improve over the last time. Doesn't always work, sorry to say

I've read about some big soapers who sell online do this in big 5 gallon buckets and they call it their "Master Batch". I think it's a great idea!

Great idea! I think I'm pretty close to a "go to" recipe and may do the same. I would have to use something larger (just thinking out loud here) but I think lard buckets would work. (Yes, I'm turning into the lard bucket queen.) I've also thought about master batching lye. I've read old posts here where some did that. I think it was Paul, the Soapmaker Man, who master batched lye with aloe Vera in a 1:1 ratio and stored it in old laundry detergent bottles (most of which are HDPE #2 so they would be fine).

I don't think the master batch idea would work if you use hard oils right? Like coconut oil?

This is what I do. I use my old buckets from places that I ordered a long time ago that sent their oils in buckets to master batch. It makes it so much easier. When I go to make soap, I just heat a little mix my lye/milk and away I go. I usually take one day to make all my buckets and then go from there.
