I have just had some powdered colourants arrive. People say that they should be 'bloomed' in water first to avoid speckled bombs and bubble bars. I was wondering if anyone had a tried and tested technique to share please?

Hopefully this link will help https://twowildhares.com/listing/519156379/lagoon-bath-bomb-dye-batch-certified-fdc

I recently purchased some of these dyes so have been blooming mine with a small amount of water, then mixing with baking soda and waiting until the mix is dry to use it for bath bombs. I made some bubble bars yesterday and just mixed the dye into my liquid surfactant instead of the baking soda. I can post bubble bar pics later today if you want to see how those turned out.

And here's another link I watched last night on making embeds for bath bombs . . . she blooms the dye in water then adds a tiny bit of coconut oil to mix with the baking soda before adding the citric acid.

ETA: I'm going to follow this method next time I attempt embeds because my last batch was a total disaster!

Just finished painting one of the bubble skulls so you could see. I'm going to use the smiley dude for a tub test tomorrow night and can post pics of the water if anyone is interested. I used red 33 dye in these along with Big FO (Lush dupe from Nurture) and painted with an assortment of Nurture micas.

I had a go today making some bars, I tried to mix a lavender shade to go with my lavender essential oil scent, they turned out battleship grey LOL - I will post a picture of the disaster later

I used a free recipe for the bubble skulls. It works pretty well for cookie cutter shapes but I have a harder time rolling it. I also purchased the TwoWildHares bubble bar recipe on etsy and it's perfect for rolls but takes a few extra days to harden.

What colors did you blend attempting to make lavender? Pretty sure I've seen others complain about the same grey result using blue 1 & red 40. I can try mixing blue 1 & red 33 to see if it turns out better . . . I'm also looking to make a good purple.

I could be wrong, but I think I used some oil infused with alkanet and got a nice purple once on some bath bombs.

These are the ugly they are coloured with red 40 and blue 1 - I also have some basic fuchsine which is supposed to be violet (but I'm not sure what pH it goes Violet as it looks green to me. I added some of that too when it wasn't looking very purple.
