Pottasium Sorbate as a Preservative for lotions

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could please tell me if potassium sorbate can be used as a preservative in lotions and body butters. And if it is considered to be a natural preservative. Thank you in advance!

You can use it in lotions. However you need to couple it with another preservative since it is not effective against bacteria. It works against mold and some yeast.

It is also very ph dependent. It won't work if the ph is above 6. and works better if the ph is lower--about 4 .

It is water soluble and so does not work for body butters

Not by itself. You need another preservative along with it like Cosmocil CQ.

Thank you so much for the answers. It seems that even though you use this preservative, to ensure shelf life, you would still have to add something else. Thanks again!

potassium sorbate

Hello, Well I did a little more research on potassium sorbate and found out that it is not natural for the reason that it is processed in a chemical plant for use. It seems that all the preservatives are ok as long as they do not have parabens in them. If anyone can enlighten me any further, I would really appreciate any help. Thanks again!
