Confession: I’ve never actually used Olive Oil Pomace to make soap . I found a local enough wholesaler (No shipping!!!!) but they only carry pomace. I’ve heard it accelerates trace time, but by how much? I’m going to be tweaking my recipe a bit and the OO amount will be about 28% and I like doing complicated stuff.

Should I stick to ordering pure olive oil online or give the pomace a go? (I’ll be stuck with it for about 6 months).

Many people here who also do the "complicated stuff" use pomace.

I use pomace but I do only simple stuff hehehe

I used to use Pomace all the time as it was cheaper than regular olive oil. Now, the store where I've always purchased it no longer carries it so I'm using regular OO. I never noticed that it accelerated trace; it depends more on your recipe than on the olive oil you use.

I was using pomace a lot when my town grocer carried, but they don't anymore, so don't use it as much now. But for me it accelerated trace so much that when I made my Castile soap with 50% pomace & 50% regular OO, I never had to use the stick blender to reach trace in just a few minutes of hand stirring. So, I'd say that was quite a bit of acceleration.

I switched to Pomace Olive oil after I found it at a restaurant supply store (Gordon Food Service) for significantly less than Costco for regular OO. I have noticed that trace does accelerate a bit so I only take batter to just after emulsification. Works great and less money for same benefits. Win!
