After the gooey beer soap debacle, I am a bit apprehensive of another slab soap with low hardness numbers. I would love any input in adjusting this recipe. I want to use the GM soap recipe from soap making resource.
The recipe is as follows:
Olive oil 50%
Palm Kernel Oil 10%
Rice Bran Oil 10%
Coconut oil 10%
Shea Butter 10%
Palm Oil 5%
Castor Oil%
I plan on doing 5% super fat, so 372g GM and 144g Lye

Soap calc gives me these numbers:
Hardness 34
Cleansing 13
Conditioning 63
Bubbly 18
Creamy 25
Iodine 69
INS 132

Would you experienced soapers adjust this recipe at all? I plan to use a slab mold and place immediately in the fridge. I am nervous with the high percentage of OO and rice bran oil but will go with it if others think it is ok...

Why not try this combination:

Castor oil 8%
Coconut Oil 25%
Olive Oil 24%
Palm Oil 23%
Rice Bran Oil 20%

These are the numbers
Hardness 41
Cleansing 17
Conditioning 55
Bubbly 24
Creamy 31
Iodine 64
INS 145

This will give you a nice hard bar with good conditioning, since you are using goat's milk, and good bubbly and creamy lather. Be sure and run this and any recipe through SoapCalc before using to get the correct amount of lye and liquid. Good luck with your soap.

Thanks Isg, I will try that. I bought palm kernel flakes specifically for this recipe so I guess I will find another use for it :)

Hlee, Thanks! It is still gooey and even has finger prints from me removing it from the mold, but I am hoping it will "grow up" to be a hard bar :)

I am sure it will. I usually leave my soaps in the mold for at least 24 hours before unmolding. Some softer soaps need to go into the freezer, mold and all, so they will firm up enough to unmold. Soaps usually firm up as they cure becuase of moisture evaporation.

You can switch out the coconut for palm kernel flakes if you want, they are pretty much the same. In fact your soap should be harder because of the high stearic acid in the PKFs.
