Hi everyone,

Is it safe to take cheap, plastic toys from the Dollar Store and embed in cp soap?

Our first grader has a project from school that says create a service or product and pretend to make it, advertise, and sell it.

Well, she wants soap with toys in it. It's not clear to me if the student really sells it; if so, then we'll use M&P.

But, she want to make "real" soap with toys in it, too.(She has her own goggles and lab coat).

We bought plastic dice, flip it frogs, and plastic hearts from the dollar store.
Can they be put in CP?

Would HP be better....and how would you do it? Plop the soap into the mold, and shove the toys in, or mold soap balls around the toy?

I am so interested. This would be great if it works. I thought about doing with shells but my concern was with heating after being pored in mold. What about an olive oil bar cut while still semi soft and then embed toy on top. Hope it works out and if it does will you post a pic. GOOD LUCK!

I've used plastic cupcake picks from the dollar store without any issues.

If using MP I would just give it a shot. I think that if you can use imbed paper and it work I would think a plastic toy would be fine too. What about putting a rubber duck or toy on top. I make CP cupbakes with little rubber ducks on top and have not had any trouble with them.

Most CP is opaque, so wouldn't that be a problem with embedding a toy inside the soap? I guess I can see a toy on the soap ... but that wouldn't be as much fun.

There's a type of CP that uses glycerin to make it translucent -- maybe that's the way to go if you must do lye soap vs. M&P. That might let you embed the toy inside the soap and still do CP soap.

Wow DeeAnna.....you just made my life much easier!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

I hope it's as easy as it sounds; has any one tried it?

Thank you thank you thank you! I love making hp soap because it takes longer (I only make soap for personal use, so don't have enough reasons to make lots of batches), but didn't want to spend the entire sunday afternoon trying to mold hp soap batter around plastic toys, molding them, then cutting individual bars with cookie cutters! 'Cause ya know....that hp stuff hardens up really fast when it starts cooling off!

Our concern was more about the personality of our little girl (curious, fearless, and "I got this, don't help me!" attitude) around active cp batter, rather than opaque versus translucent. But this recipe will mean she can melt, color, mold, mix, create to her heart's content! And with all that glycerin, should be very nice for her skin. We have tiny molds of lego guys and animals we can make to smoosh onto the bars.

And soap glitter. Ooh ooh oooh! We can make "jello" soap....cut colors of this m&p into cubes, and pour melted soap over! She will LOVE it!

Happy happy joy joy!! Happy happy joy!

DeeAnna, you're my hero! She is going to have a blast with this!!

Okay, whose kidding who. I'm going to love it too. (So this is why so many people start selling, isn't it? Must have more reasons to make more soap!)

Yes, you can use it to make a whole bar, if you want. It can weep in humid weather like regular M&P (more glycerin = more chance of weeping), but it lets you do things with regular lye soap that you can't do otherwise. And it's definitely safer for kids.

To be clear, I haven't personally tried this, but people who have a clue -- Seven, lsg, MzMolly, soapcakes, Alaska Beauty, etc. -- have done it with good results, so I'd say it's worth a try.

Stearic is available from pretty much any source that stocks lotion supplies as well as soapmaking stuff. I get mine from https://www.thesage.com/index.html (they sell small amounts) and another source is http://www.soaperschoice.com (but the minimum quantity is 8 pounds!) but Brambleberry, Lotioncrafter, etc would carry it too.

Wow...I wonder how long it takes to use up 8lbs of stearic acid?

I can order a few ounces - plenty for this project, and to use in my personal cp soap. I like a hard bar of soap, but a lower cleansing 10 - 12, so I'll enjoy playing around with the stearic acid.

Thanks again DeeAnna!
