Hi all, I have made 2 batches of soap so far, as I am new to soap making. First batch was 2lbs in a wooden mold, which came out nice. 2nd batch was 4lbs in a plastic rectangular (storage container) loaf-like which only reached partial gel. I wrapped the plastic mold in only fabric, maybe I should have used heavy towels. I am just wondering if it was the mold that caused the soap to only partially gel or maybe it was not wrapped enough. What are folks thoughts on plastic storage containers used as molds- do others do this? Thanks in advance, Barb

Another newbie here, but one of my first batches was done in Hefty plastic food containers and it all came out fine, but they were smaller, not one large container. One thing I didn't like was that I could not find containers wtih totally smooth bottoms so that there were no ridges, etc. I am sure there are some out there, I just didn't find them.

Good luck with your soapmaking, I have really become addicted myself.

I think that the partial gel could have been due to the plastic mold and light covering. A wooden mold probably holds the heat better than plastic. I usually cover my wooden mold with a couple of bath towels. A partial gel only affects the looks of the soap. Some of my soap have partially gelled. They were darker in the middle, but other than that they were fine.
