Hi all-
I have used WSP's Peppermint Stick FO in CP soap. It does great at .5oz/lb.
It scents up the bathroom and has a little "tingle". I want to make a new batch, and have only their EO.
I use mostly FO's, and have heard that you use EO's at lower amounts.
Any ideas on peppermint EO? I don't want it to be too tingly.

The peppermint EO soap I made last fall had 1oz ppo. It was overwhelming and sickening at the time. After a short cure it was a little tingly but not much. A few months later and I couldn't smell the EO at all. Not even when wet and there were no tingles left.

I don' t use peppermint. I tried it once and the "tingle" was unexpected! Maybe good just for hand soap.

Yes I bought 500mls of this stuff cause believe it or not it is one of my 13yrs sons fav's...........Guess his parts are not as sensitive
I use it with seakelp and sell as a gardners soap

Wow- PrarieCraft-
1oz ppo is alot. I used the FO (called "peppermint stick" at .5oz ppo. It had a nice tingle
and the scent has lasted a year- still going strong. They don't have that one
anymore- the new one is called "purely peppermint" and contains vanilla.

I made a new batch with the EO. It's max use rate is 2%. .5 ppo is 3%.
So when I asked the question, I was trying to figure out how much to use.
When I didn't get an answer, I did 1%. It is curing now. The whole room smells
of peppermint- quite nice, really. I hope I didn't overdo it- and I hope it doesn't disappear!

So Lyn- does it help to cover up the fishy smell of the kelp?

I love the smell of peppermint but almost put it outside to cure. It was giving me a headache so if yours is sitting around you might want to move it far away from where you are.

I'm using the last bar right now at the sink. It was 100% CO so the lather is amazing but there is not one single bit of scent left whatsoever. It was so strong to start and unbelievable that it faded completely. I just tested half a dozen different peppermint FOs. If I find a sticker I will try to remember to let you know. They are almost a week into curing right now, we'll see. I know at least one faded right off the bat.

I know this is directed at Lyn but I have found the fishy smell of kelp disappears eventually. I know I could still smell it at 4 weeks but later it had disappeared and all I could smell was the FO. I'm sorry but I don't know how much longer it took.

Mmmm, peppermint fish :) ,a new scent for the person who has everything.

   ................Peppermint fish
The kelp smell does disappear and all that is left tis the good ole peppermint..................Must make some more and call it Peppermint fish and see how it sells :0)..............But the thought of fish and soap Ewwwwww probably have the health department on my case LOL

Honestly it does vary how much EO you use PPO as some are stronger smelling then others. I've never used less EO then a FO since FOs seem stronger imo.

I soap with 1Tbsp EO or 1 Tsp FO, that's 3 times the EO over FO, in small batches to test and they always come out nice with either way leaving scent behind on the skin for a little while. One of my most commented on soap is my Peppermint. Everyone that's received some just -loves- it with no mention of tingles. If you don't want the tingles, use less.

If you want more tingles it might be best to keep it to a foot scrub so it doesn't get uncomfortably tingly on the skin. I use peppermint and eucalyptus for my feet and after a long day its like having a second mini massage going on while I rub out the aches and pains.
