Second batch... first one sold out! I didnt put the glitter on this one, I noticed it got EVERYWHERE and when someone would touch the bar of soap and then touch my other soaps, they would get glitter transfered onto them too. It drove me nutts. Now I reserve glitter for a select few.

I love the look of glitter but I dont think its practical for me. I'll scream if I find another speck of pink glitter on one of my Man bars lol! :lolno:

That's very pretty. I didn't know you were selling your soaps already. How much do they sell for?

So far its only been through word of mouth and by chance lol! (friends have been buying them as gifts too). My round soaps weigh almost 5 oz and have goat milk in them (or silk) and i think $5 is fair. My bars are weighing in between 5 3/4 to 6 1/4. oz. so i was thinking $6 (maybe $6.50 on Etsy to cover fees) What do you think? I hate pricing my soap. I dont want to scare peeps away but I want MY moneys worth too! :problem:

I noticed that for me the biggest expense per bar has been FO or EO. For instance my batch of Silver Water was made using 5 tsp (almost an oz) of FO which cost me something like $7+ shipping and tax. So my 5 bar batch broken down costs me $1.50 per bar in scent only! ~if my math is correct. Thats rediculous! Add in the shea butter, cocoa butter, other oils, lye, distilled water, GM or coconut milk and Im barely making money and thats not even including packaging and TIME! So... this is definately a labor of love. The cost wouldnt be so bad if I bought larger quantities of FO/EO but Im not made of money either. Just my 2 cents on pricing. :wtf:

WOW. $7.00 for a single ounce of scent is a lot. Scent selection might be determined by scent cost. If you're paying that much, then yeah, you're going to have issues with pricing. I think 5-6 is fair, even 6.50 on Etsy. But I think you'll have to shop around to find the best priced products to keep your cots down. It' so expensive to make soap, but fun!

I was quite shocked when I did the calculations. For me it may just mean not making Silver Water anymore when it comes to this sort of thing. BUT I did notice that for double the amount of FO it costs only a couple bucks more so... I just need to break down and buy larger quantities but I hesitate because I have a bunch of 1 oz FO's that I will never use because I dont like the scent...so i try to buy 1 oz bottles first to see if I even want to make soap with it. This soaping thing should in theory get cheaper the more educated I become with each scent I use

In theory that's true. What about using those scents for one ounce guest bars? Or mixing them to make a usable quantity? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others won't, and if you can put them to use, it's less waste of your money.

Very true. The honey FO i thought smelled like warm puppy piss was an instant favorite the minute my friend Krista smelled it. I guess ya never know lol! Thanks for the tip ;)

I know what you mean! Different strokes for different folks lol. One of the girls at work has been dying for me to make her patchouli scented soap. She had a lotion bar of it that I tried...big mistake! I think it smelled horribly strong and I couldn't get the oil out of my skin after washing and rewashing my hands.
But, I did break down and buy the EO to make some for her. I hear it is nice if mixed with other frangrances. We shall see.

I'll have to give a peppermint soap a try :)

I'm starting to back off on the glitter too. It's about 50/50 at craft fairs - either people (usually young girls) love the glitter, or they make a face and ask if they would get all glittery if they use the soap. I tell them that it washes off with the first use and is only for decoration, but yeah. I've recently been using a large "antique gold" glitter from TC and that's pretty cool - just a quick sprinkle down the top of the log and it adds decoration without being too girly.

That's why I don't use Sweetcakes FO. I'm sure they're awesome, but I have to have a better price.

Love the soap! It's beautiful!!

I love the swirls in this and that is a beautiful red :) And yet another soap that makes me want to eat it.
