Can anyone give me some advice on measurements for a patchouli orange scented soap? My last one turned out bad, but I blame that on low quality patchouli.

I'm using a patchouli FO this time with a citrus EO blend. I'd like the scent of the patchouli to come through strong, with the citrus backing it up and enhancing it.

How much of each should I use?

Maybe 3 parts patch, and 1 (or 1/2) part EO blend? I'm totally pulling that outta my ass, but I suppose it would depend on the stickabilty (technical term) of the citrus EOs. I have no trouble with orange and tangerine EOs as faders, but some people say they do.
Maybe .7 to 1 oz PPO or the Patch and .2 oz. PPO of the citrus?

For what it's worth, Daniel - It sounds yummy.

The citrus is gonna need more to even be noticeable. Patchouli is a base note and citrus is a top note so you would use more citrus than patchouli. I use a ratio of 3:1 when I blend orange or lemon eo's with patchouli.

What are your hard measurements for the patchouli and citrus EOs, per pound of oils?

I still soap the 3:1 mix at 1 oz ppo. But if you are looking for patchouli to be the main event then maybe a 2:1 ratio would work since patchouli is used to anchor citrus.

Thanks for the info, I'm definitely aiming for Patchouli to be the main scent, with the citrus in the back seat, giving it a little something extra. The thing I wonder is, say I'm making a 2 lb batch and I use 1.25 oz citrus EO and .75 oz patchouli FO. The citrus scent withers and I'm using the patchouli in only half the ration I normally would.... wouldn't the patchouli come in really weak at that rate?

I guess what I'm asking is, since the citrus withers so much, shouldn't I increase the total amount of EO/FO ppo?

imho, i would try 1 oz ppo orange and .7 oz ppo patchouli. the orange will fade as it dries which will give the patchouli a sweeter more complex character.

i have tangerine II f/o by www.soapsupplies.net which i am anxious to soap. i've heard it's very good and doesn't fade like orange e/o's.

yikes i would never use 1oz of pachouli per lb, gonna be very strong.

I made a Patchouli and oragne soap, with a ratio of 3:1 Orange:patchouli At 1% ratio of oils, and you can hardley smell the orange, if at all, and I can just smell the Patchouli and no more, I was very disapointed as it smelt divine when I poured it! I have used that same ratio with Patch and Vetivert and it is still going strong, maybe use an orange fragrance oil if you want a hint of orange?

you could also try using a five fold orange in the same ratio. I also find I have to superload on the orange EO's, or I should say Citrus EO's, if I don't they smell great for about two weeks then I notice massive fading.
I have found though that for some reason if I substitute a small portion of the orange EO with pink grapefruit it makes the orange scent I am looking for more brilliant.
