Palm oil with soft oils

Its been a long time since I've tried to formulate a palm recipe and I used it in combo with lard, which I won't be this time.

I don't like a lot of olive oil in soap since it soaks up a lot of moisture so thought of using a mix of soft oils like ho sunflower, safflower, etc. But wow that's a lot of soft oil for someone used to using 60%+ of lard!

Is 40% palm, 20% co, 35% soft oil and 5% castor - reasonable? Anyone else find this recipe - uninspired??

I use up to 30% liquid oil in my 40-42% Palm recipe (vegan) and usually add in shea at 7%. I do not go 20% CO but that is just me

I do very similar to yours but do 10% Shea and 25% liquid oils. OO or Rice Bran.

Remind me how fast a recipe with palm oil traces? And, does palm oil rice more/less often than lard? (I had very few problems with lard and ricing)

I haven’t had ricing but it does move faster than lard. I move faster with palm.

I have never had problems that I would really contribute to palm other than it does trace much quicker. Only time I have had ricing is due to fragrance. The best to do with palm in my opinion is to get to emulsion, separate what you want to color and do not stick blend in the color. I prefer to add my fragrance after coloring and know how the particular fragrance acts, if it is a new fragrance that I am suspicious might misbehave I go with my slow trace recipe.

I have a High Palm , around 75-85% palm and PKO. So mine traces FAST. Cooler traces even FASTER ! But like I said , it is a very high palm so my swirls are always rushed but that's ok.

I do not go over 42% Palm, because I find it cuts to much lather and is waxy feeling. I like the hardness and longevity, but want enough room for other oils to balance out the palm.

I would make 10 lb batches to fill four 2.5 lb molds. I'm guessing I can't do that any more. That lard batter easily gave me an hour to work.

What temp should palm batter be at? (no more room temp soaping? I don't have temps mentioned in my notes, I may have just gone my visually looking for clear oils and a warm pot)

I soap warmer than 120 F with palm, I stir very well to emulsion, the batter traces pretty fast as I use 40 % palm, 30 % soft oils, 30 % hard oils,

30% Rice Bran
10% Shea Butter
5% Castor

I use Salt and Sugar in my Lye Water and a ball of silk. I soap at around 90. I have made this many times and only had a problem once due to an unfamiliar FO.

I soap palm like I do my lard. I just melt it till it's clear then add my liquid oils and warm those a bit. I still don't soap above 110 or so I'm guessing. I haven't taken temps in years. I certainly don't have as much time to play with my batter as I do with lard. I make 6 lb batches. I just move a bit quicker.

I pretty much stay at 5%. Never higher than 7% except salt bars.

I melt till clear, or I get stearic spots terrible.
I SF about 5% on the written recipe but I add more Shea for more (that is not written in).

Was looking for a recipe with no olive and this sounds very nice. What’s your usual superfat on this?
