I'm getting ready to select my soap packaging. It is CP, goat's milk, with a touch of Rosemary EO and honey to help preserve it. My question is this:

Should soap 'breathe' -- have open packaging? -- to prevent spoilage?
Should soap be plastic wrapped or sealed -- to preserve scent?

Does a paper 'gift wrap' solve for both?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and advice!

I've read that it does need to "breathe" in the packaging in the "everything soap making book". The gift paper will do well! I've bought CP soap from others that wrap it in paper. I also get CP soap that is wrapped in shrink wrap bu has a hole punched in it to let it breathe. Also I've gotten them placed inside those gauzy bags... i forget what they are called. Hope that helps. :)

Yes, the soap needs to breathe.

Soap doesn't need a preservative, and ROE and honey aren't preservatives anyway. The ROE is an antioxidant and will help slow down rancidity, but I don't know how well that works in soap, especially if you made CP soap - I don't know how well it survives the lye and heat from the saponfication.

Why don't you trial a few different ways and see how they go. I have a few packages in my bathroom cupboards, drawers in my bedroom etc. That way I'll know how my packaging is going to stand up with time in terrible places like a bathroom cupboard.
So many lovely ways to package .... how does one choose??
