I know this is already asked somewhere on here, but I can't seem to find it. What is the best % of FO to oil? I usually make 5 pound batches and have been only using 1 oz of FO, mainly because I dont want to spend a lot of money on FO until I KNOW exactly what I'm doing. So, with 1 oz, I notice the scent fades pretty quick. Any suggestions?

ALSO, does anyone know the best place to get deals on larger bottles of FO? Thanks!

I use anywhere from 0.5 to 0.7 of a fragrance oil per lb. of soap. 1 oz. to 5 lbs. of soap is not enough. Where are you getting your FO's from now?

I just received a few bottles of FO from FragranceOil, on etsy - which do not smell as strong as I thought they would, hence the need to scale down my soap size. But I also bought a few from a soapmaker in my area that were stronger, but more expensive.

I don't know where you live, but go take a look at BrambleBerry's web site to give you ideas on pricing. http://www.brambleberry.com/Fragrance-Oils-C161.aspx They are reasonable, have good prices and ship fast.

You just have to grit your teeth and comparison shop. There are many many places that sell FO's and prices will vary somewhat, as will shipping, dependent on where you live. They are probably the most expensive ingredient in soaping (depends on your ingredients, I suppose) and have the most extensive options you can imagine. Cha-ching. Be prepared to get sucked in to the maelstrom with the rest of us!

Justnsmelling from the bottle won't tell you much. I suggest you shop from a reputable purveyor of soaping materials.
