well I lost most of my swirls--grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. by the color of the soap it seems to have swallowed up most of the colors I used. I got my micas and am going to try them next time--I have been using liquid. I don't know but maybe I need to bring it to just a tinier heavier trace too.

but it smells awesome!! I am going back to HP for now. need to think about this stuff. I want to get a different mold that I can throw into the oven to get 100% gel. this batch is like 99%.

I understand. I think they are beautiful the colors are nice, and imagine they smell quite amazing. :)

I think they are fine....Hope the scent sticks for you. I'm struggle with citrus scents sticking. I purchased 6 grapefruit blends to try as I get a lot of requests for them. So first up was Grapefruit, Peach & Thyme from WSP. Not sure it's going to hang around. Fingers crossed.

I think you'll be much happier with micas over liquid colorants. You can control the colors more. I get similar effects when I pour at too thin trace....

thanks. the grapefruit/peach/thyme sounds amazing. I love anything with orange or grapefruit. I made some orange/grapefruit with friends this summer and while using the first time the smell was there and then the next time it seemed to be gone until I was in the shower longer--maybe surface smell disappears? doesn't help if you are selling and want people to smell it though. good to know my problem might be tracing issues. I cut the bars early this morning using my lights to see but I set the bars on my table in front of my patio door and I am seeing more colors--so not as bad as I thought but not anywhere near where it should be. Thankfully (???) I am too stubborn to give up.
what kind of time frame can mixed micas be not used. and I am wondering how the texture is. Hopefully they aren't gritty like charcoal? do you find they are better mixed with oil or water? thanks again for your help

You'll figure out the swirling thing. Micas are finer than charcoal. With micas I generally mix them with a bit of oil from my batch or just blend them right into the batter. They work both ways. I will place some mica in the bottom of my measuring cup and then pour my soap batter over the top. I then stir with a spatula until incorporated and if needed give it a quick buzz with my stick blender. You can also mix micas with glycerin which I've tried as well.
